Dialogue for Peace Faculty Professional Development Fellowship Program
The Dialogue for Peace faculty fellowship is a five-week cohort-based learning experience open to all faculty at UC San Diego. The fellowship explores Peacemaking and Restorative Justice as a framework to promote dialogue across differences, listening for understanding, conflict resolution, and consensus/community-building.
The Dialogue For Peace Professional Development Program will equip faculty with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to become effective facilitators and leaders capable of addressing conflicts and fostering meaningful dialogue within their departments, classrooms, laboratories, studios, and communities.
Program Goals
- To equip faculty with the knowledge and skills to effectively facilitate dialogue across differences in academic settings.
- To strengthen faculty capacity to cultivate inclusive, respectful, and engaged learning and working environments.
- To deepen faculty understanding of Peacemaking and Restorative Justice frameworks and their application in teaching, mentoring, scholarship, and shared governance.
Learning Outcomes
By the conclusion of the fellowship and final project presentations, Faculty Fellows will:
- Apply practical skills in conflict resolution, dialogue facilitation, and listening for understanding.
- Design and implement a dialogue-centered project within a course, department, research group, laboratory, studio or campus initiative.
- Share dialogue-based practices and insights with colleagues to expand impact across academic communities.
- Cultivate a values-based framework that informs their approach to teaching, mentoring, and academic leadership.
Faculty will:
- Receive $5,000 in discretionary funding to be disbursed following the final project presentation in Fall 2026.
- Receive eight Triton Cash Cards each with a value of $25 for final project participant incentives.
- Engage in discussions, group activities, and role-playing to develop practical leadership skills.
- Learn directly from seasoned experts in Peacemaking and Restorative Justice facilitation and curriculum.
- Build connections with fellow faculty committed to dialogue across difference, share insights, and work on real-world challenges together.
- Implement a peer facilitation project on campus, applying the skills and knowledge gained to benefit their own communities.
- Enjoy snacks and meals during program sessions to be in community and deepen connections with their peers
- Participate in a celebration in the final session of the fellowship.
- Contribute to a toolkit through faculty projects developed in the fellowship program.

We are looking for faculty employed by UC San Diego through the end of Fall 2026 who are passionate about learning conflict resolution skills, exploring different perspectives, and building empathy.

Empower faculty to facilitate community dialogue and understand how to implement Peacemaking and Restorative Justice practices within their own departments, classrooms, laboratories, studios or communities contributing to a positive campus climate.

What will I learn as a Dialogue For Peace Fellow?
|
By the end of the program, faculty will develop skills to facilitate open and meaningful conversations, gain a deep understanding of the principles and practices of Peacemaking and Restorative Justice, and create their own final project.

What is the time commitment?
|
Spring 2026 Session Dates (All sessions will occur on a Friday and in person at the Ida and Cecil Green Faculty Club):
- April 17, 2026, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- April 24, 2026, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- May 1, 2026, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- May 8, 2026, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- May 29, 2026, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m
- Complete a peer facilitation project in Spring 2026, as well as, present their final project at a to be determined date and time.
Full attendance at all sessions is required.

What are the benefits of participating in the program?
|
DFP Fellowships are professional development opportunities where faculty connect with their peers, learn hands-on from experienced professionals, and foster community and belonging on their campus. The program includes lunch socials to strengthen these relationships, and culminates in a final session where the group will celebrate completion of the program and receive further coaching on their project. Faculty will receive $5,000 in discretionary funds following the final project presentation in Fall 2026, as well as, eight Triton Cash Cards to incentivize participation in their final project rollout.

Each fellow will design and implement a peer facilitation project on campus, applying their newly acquired skills to benefit their community. Further details are outlined in the curriculum and training sessions to be shared upon acceptance into the program. |
