The Dialogue For Peace staff training fellowship is a cohort-based learning experience open to all full-time career staff at UC San Diego that takes place over two full consecutive days and one half day. The fellowship explores Peacemaking and Restorative Justice as a framework to promote dialogue across differences, listening for understanding, conflict resolution, and consensus/community-building. Dialogue For Peace fellows will learn foundational theories and facilitation skills. 

The Dialogue For Peace Program will equip staff with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to become effective facilitators and leaders capable of addressing conflicts and fostering meaningful dialogue within their departments and communities. 

Goals and Learning Outcomes

Program Goals: 

  • To equip staff with the knowledge and skills to become effective community dialogue facilitators
  • To foster an understanding of Peacemaking and Restorative Justice practices and application in promoting listening for understanding 

Learning Outcomes:  

By the end of the fellow program and final projects, staff will:

  1. Understand the foundations of Peacemaking and Restorative Justice
  2. Cultivate a values-based mindset for Peacemaking and Restorative Justice
  3. Develop practical skills in conflict resolution  
  4. Design and execute peer facilitation projects 
  5. Share knowledge and practices with peers

Program Benefits

Staff will: 
  • Engage in discussions, group activities, and role-playing to develop practical leadership skills 
  • Learn directly from seasoned experts in Peacemaking and Restorative Justice facilitation and curriculum
  • Build connections with fellow staff, share insights, and work on real-world challenges together 
  • Implement a peer facilitation project on campus, applying the skills and knowledge gained to benefit their own communities
  • Enjoy snacks and meals during program sessions to be in community and deepen connections with their peers
  • Receive $250 in project funding to implement staff's knowledge and skills in their own community spaces
  • Participate in a celebration at the final session of the fellowship
  • Contribute to a toolkit through staff's project developed in the fellowship program

What is the Dialogue for Peace Staff Fellowship Program? 

We are looking for full time professional staff employed by UC San Diego through the 2025-2026 academic year who are passionate about building empathy, exploring different perspectives, and learning conflict resolution skills.

What are the main goals of the program?

Empower staff to facilitate community dialogue and understand how to implement Peacemaking and Restorative Justice practices within their own communities contributing to a positive campus climate.

What will I learn as a Dialogue For Peace Fellow?

By the end of the program, staff will gain a deep understanding of the principles of Peacemaking and Restorative Justice, develop skills for open and meaningful conversations, and create their own peer facilitation projects.

What is the time commitment?

Fellows must attend:

  • Training sessions in person on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Friday, October 17, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Complete a peer facilitation project in Winter 2026, as well as, present their project in March 2026 at a to be determined date and time. 

What are the benefits of participating in the program?

DFP Fellowships are paid professional development opportunities where staff connect with their peers, learn hands-on from experienced professionals, and foster community and belonging on your campus. The program includes daily lunch socials to strengthen these relationships, and culminates in a final session where the group will celebrate completion of the program and receive further coaching on their project.
 
Staff will receive funds toward the development of their project.

What is the peer facilitation project? Each fellow will design and implement a peer facilitation project on campus, applying their newly acquired skills to benefit their community. Further details are outlined in the curriculum and will be shared in training sessions upon acceptance into the program.
