UC San Diego's Community of Practice is an initiative of the Vice Chancellor for Organizational Transformation (VCOT) which launched in early 2025. It is composed of practitioners across the enterprise who have been asked to serve in such a role by their unit’s leadership.
Strengthening UC San Diego's commitment to a student-centered, research-driven, patient dedicated and service-oriented university, is not just a goal; it is an ongoing process. It requires continuous reflection, action, and collaboration. Through this Community of Practice, we bring to life our Strategic Plan, create the networks and connections necessary to achieve greater impact, to do better, and to attain the highest levels of excellence on our campus.
Through leadership and connection provided by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Organizational Transformation, the Community of Practice is an opportunity for knowledge exchange, strategy alignment, collaboration, and mutual support. Moreover, it is a space for rejuvenation, a place to recharge and find strength in shared commitment and community, a place to develop relationships, allyships, and partnerships that will help sustain collective commitment to improving the UC San Diego experience for everyone.
The Community of Practice meets twice per quarter, and shifts between in-person and online. All participants in the Community of Practice participate in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Organizational Transformation's Two Day Learning Intensive, which is required to join the Community of Practice. It provides a baseline of knowledge and skills for UC San Diego employees, as well as initial alignment and community building. The registration process for the Two Day Learning Intensive and subsequent admission into the Community of Practice is by invitation only, has eligibility requirements indicated below, and requires certain commitments both before, during, and after the Two Day Learning Intensive.
Although the Community of Practice is a professional development experience, this is not an introductory or mid-level opportunity. High level expectations from those who complete the Two Day Learning Intensive make this an advanced opportunity for career professionals with a long-term investment in the success of UC San Diego. Participants in the Community of Practice are eligible to apply for UC San Diego’s LEAD Fellows.
